HAVANA, Cuba.- Cuba is this year’s venue for World Organ Donation Day, which is celebrated with the aim of raising public awareness of this issue.
The Minister of Health, Jose Angel Portal, highlighted the date on Twitter, and expressed satisfaction that the island is the host of the meeting of the Ibero-American Network of Donation and Transplantation, which takes place this November at the La Pradera International Health Center, in Havana.
The Cuban program has more than 30 hospitals accredited for the process of organ and tissue donation, including nine kidney transplant centers, one of heart and five bone marrow centers.
During the meeting, Dr. Beatriz Dominguez, president of the Ibero-American Transplant Donation Council, recognized Cuba for its achievements in that national program and the health system in general.
