Havana, Cuba.- The commission created to draft the new Cuban Constitution was intensely working last week, presided by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Army General Raul Castro Ruz, Granma newspaper reported today.

‘The work these days has allowed us to advance in the drafting of the precepts that will make up the preliminary draft,’ Granma reports in a brief informative note.

In accordance with the provisions, the preliminary draft will be submitted to the National Assembly for evaluation before being put to a people’s consultation, for the purpose of forming the final text that will be submitted to a referendum.

The work sessions held last week by this commission were headed by its president, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Army General Raul Castro, and with the participation of the president of the Council of State and Council of Ministers, Miguel Diaz-Canel, and the Second Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party, Jose Ramon Machado Ventura.

The more than 30 members of this commission, representing the most diverse sectors of society, were presented by Diaz-Canel at the Extraordinary Session of the 9th Legislature of the National Assembly of People’s Power, held last month in Havana.

According to the Cuban president, the commission’s fundamental mission is to draft the new Constitution of the Republic, ‘in accordance with the principles of our socialist democracy.’

Díaz-Canel has indicated that the enunciations of the new Constitution will take into account ‘the humanistic and social justice principles that shape our political system and to consider as irremovable pillars the irreversibility of the socialist system that our people sovereignty adopted; to ratify today more than ever, the national unity and the role of the Communist Party of Cuba, as an organized vanguard and superior leadership force of society and the State.’
