JAKARTA, Indonesia.- UN agencies and authorities show great alarm over the destruction caused after the earthquake and tsunami in Sulawesi, Indonesia, which killed more than 1200 people.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the Indonesian Government confirmed there are many people still missing, and they fear that the figure will increase due to the catastrophe caused by the telluric phenomenon.
It is estimated that 800 people are seriously injured and the UN Resident Coordinator in Indonesia highlighted the magnitude and complexity of this emergency, which makes the response more difficult.
UNICEF was concerned about the safety of thousands of children after the disaster, and Indonesian authorities asked the agency to send social workers to the affected areas, in order to support children who lost their families.
