UNITED NATIONS, USA.- The Executive Director of the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), Michel Sidibe, congratulated China on the enormous progress in combating that disease.

The High Representative explained to Xinhua news agency that progress at the global level is unbalanced, and while the Asian giant is accumulating successes, other countries experience high rates of new HIV infections.

On cooperation with Africa on this issue, the ONU official expressed his confidence that China strengthen through exchanges the capacity of the countries of the continent to cope with the epidemic.

Sidibe mentioned the visits paid to China by officials from the ministries of Health of several African nations to learn more about reducing the damage caused by AIDS.
