Brasilia, Brazil.- President-elect Jair Bolsonaro, from the Social Liberal Party (PSL), who won the elections on Sunday, promised to change Brazil”s fate and to place the country in an outstanding position in the world.

In his first statements shortly after being proclaimed the winner in the second round of presidential elections with more than 55 percent of votes, the extreme right-wing former Army captain said that he knew ‘where we want to go’, and noted that ‘together we will accomplish the mission of rescuing Brazil’.

Bolsonaro pointed out that it is necessary to get used to living with truth, and added that the people, whom he thanked for their trust and support, have to know what happens in the country.

He underlined that the big communication media criticized him almost all the time, putting him even ‘in a nearly humiliating position’.

With more than 98 percent of the votes counted, Bolsonaro was supported by more than 57.16 million voters, accounting for 55.34 percent of the total, while his opponent, Fernando Haddad, from the Workers’ Party (PT), won more than 46.13 million votes (44.46 percent).

Bolsonaro got the majority of votes in 16 states, while Haddad won in 11 states.
