Strasbourg, France.- Member of the European Parliament, Manuel Pineda, speaking in Strasbourg, France, on Thursday, described Cuban ‘dissident’ Jose Daniel Ferrer as a criminal and denounced a right-wing maneuver in the European Parliament to attack the island, in clear subordination to the United States.

Speaking at a plenary session dedicated to discussing cases of human rights violations, Pineda warned that the right and far-right of this bloc still do not accept that ‘Mr. Aznar’s (former Spanish president) infamous common position is over, and they insist on acting as butlers of Mr. Trump.’

‘Today they bring us a text in which they manipulate the detention and the judicial proceedings, with all guarantees, against a criminal accused of kidnapping and with a long record of crimes, including beating his pregnant ex-wife,’ the MEP stressed regarding the urgent resolution presented to the European Parliament on the case of Ferrer and human rights in general in Cuba.

According to Pineda, the opposition in Cuba is allowed to act with total normality, unlike countries such as Colombia, Chile, Ecuador and Bolivia, after the coup d’état, where it is persecuted, repressed, detained and even killed.

People will not find images of the Cuban police doing what we see every day in these ‘exemplary democracies,’ the Spanish legislator stressed.

He also considered ridiculous the statements of the speakers that preceded him, on defending the anti-Cuban initiative on the island’s alleged interference in Latin America.

‘Cuba’s only intervention in the region and other parts of the world is with armies of teachers and doctors, not as the United States does in Iraq, Libya and Syria, which seems to be of little interest to the authors of this text.

MEPs such as Hermann Tertsch and Leopoldo Lopez Gil, father of the Venezuela opposition leader and fugitive of the same name, expressed in Strasbourg an aggressive position against Cuba, and in addition to defending the resolution on Ferrer, they called to use the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union and Cuba as a pressure mechanism against the island.
