United Nations, United Nations.- US efforts to deplete support for UN Cuban nominations failed, assured Wednesday UN Alternate Permanent Representative of Cuba, Ana Silvia Rodriguez.

´Whatever attempt to reverse constitutional voted order attained by Cubans in a sovereign way will fail as well´, the ambassador tweeted.

Cuba turned out to be elected at the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) as a member of UNICEF´s Executive Board, the Executive Board of the World Food Program and the Commission for Social Development.

Obtaining 50 votes out of 54 possible ones demonstrates our prestige worldwide though all US pressures, Ana Silvia Rodriguez stressed.

On the other hand, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez indicated that these results are a recognition for the Caribbean country.

Cuba maintains close links with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), an entity that confirmed for several years that the island is the only country in Latin America without child malnutrition while there are 146 million children suffering this scourge in the world.

In the midst of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States for more than half a century on the island, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) acknowledged the advances of the Caribbean nation in the fight against malnutrition.

FAO and the World Food Program think that food security and sovereignty are a permanent concern of Cuban government´s agenda at all levels since by means of domestic social protection programs the feeding of the most vulnerable people is supported.
