ALBA-TCP Countries Condemn Coup in Bolivia

The countries belonging to the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of our America-Trade Treaty of the Peoples condemned the coup against Bolivian President Evo Morales.

In an official statement, ALBA-TCP demanded respect for civil rights and guarantees for the life of the Bolivian President, while denouncing the threats and assaults on physical security of democratically elected authorities and their families by radical right-wing groups.

Bolivia’s Constitution and rule of law were violated, the ALBA-TCP text points out, stating that radical groups seek to spread fear and seize power violently in the Andean country.

In that sense, the member countries of the international organization held Carlos Mesa and Luis Camacho responsible for any plan to assassinate President Morales.
