Havana, Cuba.- Debate and exchange of experiences will focus the Colloquium ”Leonardo Acosta in memoriam” during the 33rd International Jazz Plaza Festival, a space that begins sessions today at the Factory of Cuban Art, in this capital.

The first action of the meeting will be the panel ‘The Cuban saxophone in jazz’, in which prominent exponents of the instrument in the island such as Cesar Lopez, German Velazco, Evaristo Denis, and the member of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Victor Goines, will participate.

The criteria presented in the debate will be illustrated by Pentasax quintet, composed of students from the Manuel Saumell elementary music school in Havana.

The second moment of the day is to ‘From idea to praxis’, consisting of the master class ‘Multistrumentist: to be or not to be!’, by Goines and Cuban Janio Abreu.

The event will be completed with the paper ‘Intergeneric relationships between danzon and jazz. The case Cuba now danzon’; the launching of CD ‘Mi monte espiritual’, by pianist Alejandro Falcon; and the master class ‘Piano in jazz’, by renowned instrumentalist Ivan ‘Melon’ Lewis.

The colloquium, whose 13th edition begins today, will be held until January 20 and was named after renowned researcher, writer, journalist, essayist and musicologist Leonardo Acosta, an essential figure in Cuban music and culture, who won the National Music and Literature Award.
