Havana, Cuba.-The Cuban capital will host the 4th International Colloquium on Cultural Diversity in the Caribbean from May 22 to 26. Participants will talk about memories and border conflicts.

The event is organized by Casa de las Americas and includes exhibits, master conferences, audiovisual forums, concerts and book presentations on subjects such as geopolitics, heritage treatment and decolonization.

The event is also centered in facts that have an important impact in culture and collective memories, just as the transfer of the Virgin Islands to the United States, and the implementation of the law approved by the US Congress to grant US citizenship to Puerto Ricans.

The same way, there will be talks about the 80th anniversary of the massacre in the Haitian-Dominican mutual border in 1937, order issued by the government of Rafael Leonidas Trujillo.

These facts were highly important in the geopolitical map of that time, the culture and the society.

A press release by the Organizing Committee of the event said that thinking on these facts, implies to understand them in their respective historical dimension.

Cuban expert Camila Valdes Leon said the Colloquium joins the celebration in Cuba of the 50 years of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences, and constitutes an important part of the actions by the UNESCO staff for intercultural dialogue.

Among the activities, there will be an intervention by Fernando Gonzalez, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) on the struggle of the Puerto Rican people; a master conference on Martinica by writer Rapahel Confiant, winner of the 2016 Casa de las Americas Award, and many more.

The fine arts will have 5 samples and dancers and musical groups (dancer Yaima Santana, folklore group La Cinta and vocal group Baobab) will offer performances.
