Quito, Ecuador.- The Ecuadorian government reformed a law to prevent and eradicate violence against women and include gender equality under the principle of non-discrimination, local media reported today.

The information published by the digital newspaper ecuadorinmediato.com refers to the modification of the General Regulation of the integral Organic Law to prevent and eliminate violence against women.

Ecuador’s President Lenin Moreno made the changes through executive decree 460, so that women’s rights are properly understood and applied according to the rules.

According to the document, the curricula of all educational levels, textbooks and teaching guides will be updated to include equality between women and men in the political, economic and social spheres.

Likewise, the text calls for modifying the socio-cultural construction associated with macho behavior and supremacy towards women, as well as the development of non-discriminatory behavior and the elimination of all forms of stereotypes.

Such modifications must be developed within a maximum period of 180 days from the publication of the General Regulations in the Official Registry.
