HAVANA, Cuba. – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste, Aurelio Guterres, expressed his solidarity with the Cuban people and Government, and condemned the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States to the island more than half a century ago.

In a letter to Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Guterres said that as a member of the United Nations Organization, Timor-Leste warns on the need to end this policy to safeguard the Cubans´ rights and the access to goods necessary for their lives.

As a sign of the principles of reciprocity and good relations, Timor-Leste expresses its support for the Cuban people, he added.

Last year, for the twenty-sixth consecutive occasion, it was demanded in the United Nations the lift of the siege Washington applies to the island for more than half a century.
