Caravan of Freedom arrives today at Artemisa and Pinar del Rio.

ARTEMISA, Cuba. – Fifty nine years after of the arrival of the Caravan of Freedom, led by Commander- in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, to the municipality of Artemisa, this event was evoked this Wednesday from the town of Caimito.

The caravan is composed of 60 members of the Cuba’s High-School Students Federation, the Young Communist League of Cuba and the University Student Federation, who recall the historical fact.

A day like today, but in 1959, the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, stopped in the municipality of Guanajay where he addressed the people and continued marching to Artemisa.

As a tribute to his fighting companions who left these lands to attack the Moncada barracks, landed with Granma Yacht and conquered the definitive triumph, Fidel Castro said that the most revolutionary people in Cuba could be called Artemis.

They Evoke a Caravan that Brought Freedom to Cuba

PINAR DEL RIO, Cuba. – As on January 17, 1959, the people of Pinar del Rio will reissue today the entry of the Caravan of Freedom to that province, an event led by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.

The current generations will pay homage to those who at that time accompanied the leader of the Cuban Revolution through the villages of Pinar del Rio located along the Central Highway from the town of Guanajay.

Members of Jose Marti Pioneer Organization and Military School Camilo Cienfuegos join the journey of the Caravan of Freedom through Pinar del Rio.

Cuban flags, of the 26th of July Movement and images of the unforgettable Commander-in-Chief, are visible today around the grandstand located on the site from where Fidel spoke to the people of Pinar del Rio for the first time.
