HAVANA, Cuba.- The first panel developed at the International Forum of Journalism for the 60th anniversary of Operation Truth, which concludes this Tuesday in Havana, focused on the dangers of Latin American journalism.

Stella Calloni, political analyst, denounced the persecution and violence suffered by reporters in this geography, and called to be more incisive and to move on to the offensive before the new neo-liberal onslaught that is to be imposed.

The Argentinian journalist insisted that the media circles in the service of the new colonialism, insist on an infinite war to erode the peoples and consummate their hegemonic purposes, and it is necessary to respond with haste and constancy.

The panelists evoked journalist Rodolfo Walsh, who was cruelly murdered, and who was a fighter for our peoples. They also called for a global strategy against imperial media aggression.

United in Cyberspace: An Urgency

The International Journalism Forum for the 60 anniversary of Operation Truth dedicated some space to the issue of access to information and communication technologies, by prominent press professionals.

Rosa Míriam Elizalde, vice-president of the Union of Journalists of Cuba, explained how even networks on the left are disarticulated and do not wield a monolithic power, and in this way they give space to computer monopolies to lacerate our conscience and misrepresenting the reality we live.

Elizalde explained that social networks with the alleged benefits they offer are bait to obtain data and information from their users. Nothing is free, she highlighted, and on the contrary, they have a huge weight for its hegemonic use.

The International Journalism Forum for the 60th anniversary of Operation Truth closes its doors this Tuesday in Havana.
