MARYLAND, USA.- A man shot at the headquarters of the Capital Gazette newspaper of Annapolis, Maryland, and killed four employees, another one died in a hospital and two were injured.

Authorities have not revealed the name of the attacker, who is in custody, but police sources identified him as Jarrod Warren Ramos, who filed a libel suit against that newspaper in a case that was dismissed.

The information about the shooting caused alarm in newsrooms across the country, and police in several cities intensified the safety of major news organizations as a precautionary measure.

The last time several active journalists were killed in the United States was three years ago, when a former employee attacked two members of a TV news team in Virginia during a live broadcast.

Perpetrator of Shooting Faces Murder Charge

Jarrod Ramos, alleged perpetrator of the lethal shooting that took place in a newspaper in Annapolis, Maryland, faces five counts of homicide in the first degree.

The suspect, who entered a newspaper in the capital of Maryland and killed four journalists and one employee, is accused in the Criminal Court of Anne Arundel County, where a bail hearing will be held this Friday.

The authorities did not disclose the name of the suspect, but records of the referred judicial instance on Internet show that a subject with Ramos´ identification was charged for homicide, media reported.
