Moscow, Russia.- Cuba is ready today to receive Russian tourism in its favorite destinations, Varadero and Havana, where the recovery, after Hurricane Irma, allows the operation of most of its facilities.

The Tourism counselor at the Cuban embassy in this country, Edilberto Riveron Leon, said at a news conference that about 70 percent of the facilities in Varadero already offer services and the rest will be in action gradually and quickly.

The recovery works, as part of a system with extensive experience in our country, allowed in just one week to restore much of the damaged infrastructure and implement hotels in the referred spa, he explained.

For the beginning of the high season, in November, we intend to have all the hotel potential of the popular Cuban resort available, whose beaches have now a fully recovered image, Riveron Leon said.

In case of Coco and Guillermo keys in the country’s northern region, one of the steps of the road over the sea that joins them to the mainland has already been restored and the second access to that tourist zone, still in recovery, should be ready in some few days, he said.

As an option for the Russian tourism with bookings for the mentioned facilities, we propose as an alternative other tourist areas with less or no damage, such as Cayo Largo, near the Isle of Youth, or Trinidad, he said.

The international airport in Varadero is also receiving today the first charter flights organized from the United Kingdom, while the connection with that terminal from Canada, the country that brings the most tourists to Cuba, was restored yesterday.

Riveron Leon told Prensa Latina that as of September 11 this year, the number of Russian vacationers who traveled to the island, exceeded 7,000, for a growth of 110 percent compared to 2016.

Although it is early to forecast, after the damage caused by the aforementioned hurricane, we expect to reach the historical record of 100,000 vacationers from this nation by ending 2017, he said.
