HAVANA, Cuba. – The President of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, called to maintain vigilance and preventive measures to avoid affections by climatic events, after the heavy rains that impacted the West and center of the country.

In a meeting with authorities of the affected territories, Diaz-Canel insisted not to dismantle the actions carried out in response to the precipitations of the second fortnight of May, before the beginning of the cyclonic season on June 1st, which extends to November 30.

The Cuban President directed generalizing the experiences derived from the storm, which left human and material losses, damages that were particularly severe in the central provinces.

He also urged to restore services as soon as possible, and to overcome the impact of heavy rainfall.

Recovery Continues in Central Provinces

In a meeting with the Cuban President, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, ministers and heads of institutions presented the situation by sector, and listen to the indications from the head of State.

According to the Minister of Public Health, Roberto Morales, most of the medical facilities affected in the central provinces after Storm Alberto’s passage were already reinstated, while the Minister of Transport, Adel Yzquierdo, reported on the measures to return gradually to normal.

On his part, the chief of the Civil Defense National General Staff, Major General Ramon Pardo, said the rains associated with the subtropical storm, forced the evacuation of sixty two thousand people.

Pardo reiterated at the meeting the importance of complying with the measures established at different levels to prevent and address the risks of disasters.
