ARTEMISA, Cuba.- Cuban Vice-President Ramiro Valdes Menendez presided this Saturday in Guanimar, province of Artemisa, the ceremony marking the end of the rehabilitation of the South Dam.

The Commander of the Revolution was interested in the future maintenance, so that the objectives of avoiding the intrusion of the sea and the groundwaters´ salinization of are fulfilled.

Ines Maria Chapman, president of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources, remarked the discipline of the communities settled along the dam, and added that the biggest challenge is in their protection.

Santos Pablo Rivero, official of the Builders Union, indicated that due to the deterioration of the dam and the need to stop the effects produced by climate change, the task was finished in five months.
