Young Cubans in Lima.

LIMA, Peru.- A meeting between young Cubans and students from the University of San Marcos will take place this afternoon in Lima, the Peruvian capital and the venue of the eighth Summit of the Americas.

It´s up to the youth to begin the interactions of the Cuban delegation to the different forums of the hemispheric civil society, although the group had its first public presence recently arrived in Lima.

Directly from the Lima military airport, the representatives of the legitimate Cuban civil society went to the monument to the precursors and heroes of independence, where they placed a floral offering in a simple ceremony.

“We do so with deep gratitude to the Peruvian people, for the contribution of their history and traditions to the formation of Latin American identity, and for the share of blood, firmness and principles that several of their children contributed to our independence,” young Mirtia Brossard said.

Another Victorious April

In welcoming the Cuban delegation, Ambassador Sergio Gonzalez recalled the significance every April has for Cubans, when the anniversary of the victory of Playa Giron is celebrated.

“This is the month in which the triumph of our country is renewed every year and now we will have another victory,” the diplomat said in reference to the participation in the different forums of the hemispheric civil society that meet from tomorrow in parallel to the eighth Summit of the Americas.

After remembering Jose Marti´s by 129 years ago, the Cuban ambassador in Peru stated that the delegation e to attend Lima in a constructive and respectful spirit, but they are ready to denounce the realities Latin America is experiencing.

March against Trump

The popular forces and left-wing movements of the continent prepare a massive march through the streets of Lima to protest the presence of Donald Trump in Peru, headquarters of the eighth Summit of the Americas.

“This Thursday it will be the great continental march called Trump out of Peru,” Geronimo Lopez, Secretary General of the General Confederation of Workers of that South American country. Lopez is one of the organizers of the Peoples Summit that begins tomorrow in the Peruvian capital.

After reporting the presence in Lima of half a thousand armed marines to protect the American President, Lopez noted there is a feeling of rejection and condemns regarding Trump’s visit.

In contrast, the Peruvian trade union leader underlined the solidarity with Cuba, with which, he said,”We have a great moral debt for its continued assistance when it has been necessary.”
