Floods in Nepal.

KATMANDU, Nepal. – At least 70 people died and more than 50 remain missing this Monday in Nepal because of floods and avalanches caused by torrential rains in several regions of the country.

According to a recent balance of the Ministry of the Interior, more than 60 thousand houses in 16 districts were submerged, mainly in the southern plains, bordering India.

Authorities do not know for the moment the value of losses because the rescue teams still fail to reach all the affected places. More than 100 people lost their lives in Nepal this year because of monsoon rains, which usually occur between June and August.

Experts claim the country lives one of the worst rain seasons in its history and predict serious damage to agricultural plantations, especially rice, which directly affects the levels of poverty.
