UNITED NATIONS, New York. – Cuba denounced this Wednesday at the UN General Assembly the blockade imposed by the United States for more than 55 years, and demanded its end.

With the strength of more than 11 million Cubans and the support of the international community, we demand once again the lifting of this cruel blockade, Ambassador Ana Silvia Rodriguez said at the assembly during a session in which Secretary-General Antonio Guterres presented the annual report on the work of the organization.

Rodriguez warned at the UN that this siege constitutes a violation of international law and the human rights of all the inhabitants of the island.

In her speech, Rodriguez reaffirmed Cuba’s commitment to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and the need for the global sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries to be respected.

Cuba Expresses a Commitment to Peace

In addition, Cuba reiterated this Wednesday in the UN General Assembly its commitment to peace and multilateralism as pillars to solve the great challenges of humanity.

The alternate Permanent Representative Ana Silvia Rodriguez remarked the UN´s relevance in today’s times and its role in promoting from multilateralism a world of inclusive wellbeing and peace for the present and future generations

This institution represents the hope of millions of people who want a better planet, where peace prevails and not war, goodwill and not threats or fear of the disappearance of the human species, she stressed.

The Cuban diplomat recognized achievements in recent years thanks to the multilateral effort demanded by Guterres in his report, in particular the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Climate Agreement, both adopted in 2015.
