Havana, Cuba.-The Cuban Port Management and the board of directors of the Pascagoula port, and the gulf of the US state of Mississippi, signed today two memorandums of understanding to establish and consolidate their trade relations.

‘We are convinced that after this rapprochement, both sides will be benefited, because we will be able to exchange information on the technological areas, the port operations and infrastructure,’ the director of the Cuban agency, Fernando Perez, told the news agency Prensa Latina.

According to Perez, due to the geographical location of Mississippi and its excellent maritime routes, cooperation between those US ports and the ports in Havana, Mariel, Matanzas, Santiago de Cuba and Cienfuegos, just to mention some of the most important in Cuba.

‘I believe this meeting shows the mutual interest by Cuban and US businesspeople in strengthening their bilateral relations, especially hindered by the economic, financial and trade blockade of Cuba, imposed by the United States for more than 50 years,’ he said.

In this regard, director of the Pascagoula port, Mark MacAndrews, asserted that after this exploratory meeting, he expected to consolidate the relations irregularly maintained for 10 years with Cuba.
