HAVANA, Cuba.- The President of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel, confirmed that the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States damages the Cuban people and attacks the sovereignty and interests of countries.

Through his account in Twitter, the President said that is due to the aggressive extraterritorial application of this unilateral policy.

The day before, Diaz-Canel pointed out that the siege is the main impediment to Cuba´s economic progress, and remarked it is the most comprehensive and prolonged system of economic sanctions ever applied against any country.

A few days after the UN General Assembly vote next October 31 for a new draft resolution on the need to put an end to the blockade, numerous allegations arise in and outside Cuba to demand the cessation of that Washington policy.

Since 1992, similar initiatives received a categorical support, as 191 of the 193 member States of that multilateral organization have expressed in the last three years.

According to the annual report by the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the damage caused by the blockade, the losses between April 2017 and March 2018 are calculated as four 1,321,200,000 dollars.

In addition, the document details that the damage accumulated for almost 60 years amounted to 933,678,000,000 dollars, taking into account the depreciation of dollar against the value of gold in the international market.
