Havana, Cuba.-President Raul Castro met his peer from the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hassan Rouhani, who began an official visit to Cuba to strengthen relations between the two countries.

After the official ceremony held yesterday, the two heads of State presided over the signing of an important agreement on health, research, education, medicine and medical technology. The accord was signed by the Cuban and Iranian health ministers.

Previously, the two presidents talked on the state of the mutual cooperation and reaffirmed the willingness to continue deepening relations. A large delegation, including ministers, political advisers and members of the diplomatic staff accompanied the distinguished visitor.

The Council of Ministers’ vice president and Minister of Economy and Planning, Ricardo Cabrisas, along with other senior officials, attended the meeting on the Cuban side.

Cuba and Iran have held common views on the international arena, such as the confrontation with the U.S. imperialism, the development of a multipolar world and the defense of human rights, national sovereignty and self-determination of peoples.
