chinoBeijing, China.-The Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang today returned to Beijing after completing a successful tour in the American continent that included his participation at the 71st session of the General Assembly of the UN and official visits to Canada and Cuba.

On Monday morning, Li concluded a successful visit to the Caribbean island where he met with the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro and the President Raul Castro.

The historic official visit of Li is the first by a Chinese Prime Minister in 56 years of diplomatic relations, in which the excellent ties between Beijing and Havana were strengthened.

On the island, the Asian leader fulfilled a busy schedule that included the signing of 12 agreements aimed at increasing cooperation between the countries in renewable energy, medical research, information technology, industrial development, customs security, banking and financial cooperation and environment protection.

Also, it was signed a memorandum of understanding for the construction of a joint venture dedicated to the production of glucose meters, biosensors and other diagnosticians at the Special Economic Development Zone of Mariel (ZEDM, in Spanish), in the framework of the visit.

Li arrived in Havana from Canada, where he had previously made another official visit invited by his counterpart of the North American nation, Justin Trudeau.

The Prime Minister is the first head of the Chinese government to visit Canada in 13 years and arrived in Ottawa on September 22 after participating in a series of high-level events at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York.
