Havana, Cuba.- Chilean President Michele Bachelet has urged to strengthen bilateral ties with Cuba on trade and investment, while participating at a business forum that assesses joint business opportunities.

According to the president, the meeting will be a great contribution to further strengthen the economic ties between the two countries, and highlighted the interest of Chilean businessmen to explore the possibilities opened in this Caribbean nation to direct foreign investment.

The visitor noted that the exchanges are preceded by a public-private mission in November 2014 and another similar trip in September 2015.

The Head of State and the Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment (Mincex), Rodrigo Malmierca, were in charge of the inauguration of the event, whose sessions take place in the capital Hotel Nacional.

‘In a few weeks I finish my administration, we trust that the growing presence of Chile in Central America and the Caribbean, particularly in Cuba, will continue to be a predominant trend,’ stated Bachelet, quoted by the Cuban News Agency.
