Havana, Cuba.- FAO issued today in a statement a posthumous recognition to the merit of Dr. Adolfo Rodriguez Nodal, who died a year ago, for his contribution to food security and sovereignty, and nutrition in Cuba.

‘Given this life of consecration and occupation for common efforts for Cuba and our agency, it is a high honor to conduct this well-deserved recognition,’ the representative of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Marcelo Resende, said in the text.

‘Optimizing spaces in cities and peripheries in terms of producing more food for Cubans: that’s what the National Movement of Urban, Suburban and Family Agriculture has been doing in the country for more than 20 years,’ he added.

Such have been, among others, the significant contributions of Adolfo Rodriguez Nodals, Hero of Labor of the Republic of Cuba and Doctor Honoris Causa in Agricultural Sciences from the Central University Marta Abreu in Las Villas.

The merits, contributions and commitment of this man of field and science are in accord with FAO, he said.

Our body recognizes the mark of the agronomist and professor, the scientist, the researcher, the parliamentarian and the man of high sensitivity towards the food security and sovereignty of Cuba, whether as the head of the National Group of Urban, Suburban and Family Agriculture or as director of the Institute of Fundamental Research in Tropical Agriculture.
