Havana, Cuba.- Distinguished messages and actions from the international community after the devastating passing of Hurricane Irma along the northern coast of Cuba, are today a clear sign of support and recognition to the solidarity work of the Caribbean island.

The arrival to the Jose Marti Airport of the Venezuelan Air Force Y-8 (2803) plane, with a load of 7.3 tons destined to the Cuban affected people, stands out as part of the solidarity message of the people and government of that South American nation.

This shipment consists of a lot of mattresses, water and canned food, turning Venezuela into the first country to send humanitarian aid to Cuba.

When the aircraft arrives, Venezuelan Minister for Women and Gender Equality, Blanca Eekhout, assured that her country is ready to support Cuba, as a token of her infinite gratitude and solidarity.

Serbian President, Aleksandar Vucic, sent a message to his Cuban peer, Raul Castro, on the occasion of the fatalities and outrages caused by Hurricane Irma as it passed through the Caribbean nation.

To the people of Cuba, at this difficult time, I send words of encouragement and support to overcome the consequences of this natural disaster. I would like to say this time that Serbia, although it is a small country, is willing to help within the framework of its possibilities, the text says.

The Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Maria Cristina Perceval, also expressed support for the Caribbean nation in the face of this difficult situation.

Russia,Vietnam, Costa Rica and other Central and Latina American countries also expressed their support.
