Camaguey, Cuba.- The president of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel, learned this Wednesday about the strategies being promoted for the development of Camagüey, where he is making a government visit.

Diaz-Canel visited Cultisur de Santa Cruz del Sur, where he learned about the steps taken with respect to basic structures to facilitate productive progress in the food industry.

There, the head of State also learned details about import substitution, promotion of local development, innovation, computerization, links with the university and difficulties in the territory.

First vice-president Salvador Valdes visited an urban farm as part of the government’s visit to Camagüey.

Valdes insisted on the quality of what is sold and the control of merchandise, to which the Minister of Agriculture, Gustavo Rodriguez, added that this should be a premise for the establishment, always taking into account the weight and price list.

The Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca, visited Empresa Agropecuaria y Citricola Sola, where he called for a hierarchy of productions in order to export more.

Meanwhile, Vice President Roberto Ojeda exchanged impressions with professors and students at the University of Camagüey who agreed to strengthen links between higher education centers and companies.

This is the second government visit to Camagüey by the president and members of the Council of Ministers.

During his visits to the Cuban provinces, the president emphasizes essential tasks for the country, such as the construction of housing, food production, and construction materials.

He insists that the country has two priorities: defence preparedness and economic development.

It also reiterates the need to concretize the productive chain with tourism and other sectors, promoting sustainable local development.

In his opinion, local development produces an increase in salaries, an improvement in the standard of living of the population of the territory and favours food sovereignty.

Since his arrival to the presidency, Diaz-Canel has emphasized that the strategy is to work tirelessly with alternatives already designed, without abandoning the objectives set in terms of greater welfare for the people.
