QUITO, Republic of Ecuador.-The President of Ecuador, Lenin Moreno, confirmed this Friday the death of Diario El Comercio newspaper´s team, kidnapped last March 26 in the parish of Machops, in the province of Esmeraldas, Ecuador.

The information was announced when no response was obtained from the kidnappers after the end of the twelve-hour deadline given by the President.

The President declared security zone the place where the facts related to the kidnapping occurred, and also expressed his regret for what happened and demanded respect for his fellow countrymen.

This is one of the reasons why the Ecuadorian President will be absent from the eighth Summit of the Americas, which takes place in Lima, Peru and whose high level section begins today.
