OSLO, Norway.- As a result of climate change, nearly 200 reindeer were found killed by starvation in Norway’s Svalbard Arctic archipelago, a group of researchers confirmed.

The head of the investigation, Ashild Onvik, said the effects of climate change occur twice as fast in the Arctic compared to the rest of the world, and Svalbard is one of the main centers of warming.

Three specialists from the Norwegian Polar Institute found the lifeless bodies of this species, during an annual census of the wild reindeer population in the group of islands.

Experts said the animals starved to death, after not discovering food to graze. Climate change makes it rain much more, and water forms a layer of ice in the tundra, which makes grazing conditions very bad for animals.
