HAVANA, Cuba.- Almost 100 delegates attend the fifth Congress on Climate Change, inaugurated this Tuesday in this city as part of the Eleventh International Convention on Environment and Development.
Dr. Celso Pazos, director general of the Institute of Meteorology, said climate change is not only a current and controversial issue, but constitutes the scientific basis of the main decisions and political strategies of the countries.
Dr. Pazos pointed out Cuba celebrates the Fifth Congress on Climate Change a few months after the approval of the State Plan to confront the phenomenon; it includes strategic actions based on scientific knowledge acquired by several institutions.
The main threat of climate change to our nation, the head of the Institute of Meteorology noted, is the elevation of the average sea level and the effects on the coastal zone.
