HAVANA, Cuba. – The President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, examined on Thursday the State Plan for the confrontation of climate change, called Life Task, and the program to stop the deterioration of Cuba’s documentary heritage.

Follow-up is part of a work system where more than twenty programs of impact on the country’s development are routinely checked.

Colonel Manuel Lama Gomez, head of the Cuban Ranger Corps, explained that the actions related to Life Task do not allow illegalities in the territorial ordering of coastal settlements threatened by the elevation of the sea level.

Lama Gomez explained that other points to consider are the protection of mangroves and marine ecosystems; as well as the strengthening of the early warning system for forest fires.

Cuba’s Past in Archives

The preservation of historical memory is a priority of the Cuban Government, and for that reason, there is a monthly meeting at the Palace of the Revolution where they review certain issues that contribute to the goal of stopping the deterioration of documentary heritage.

Precisely this Thursday they analyzed the Institutional System of University Archives, founded 43 years ago, that includes in good condition valuable documentation on Cuban higher education.

The new building of the Central Archive of the Ministry of Higher Education and the digitization of funds in fourteen of its unities are among the main results of the work.

At the same time, difficulties were pointed out as insufficient equipment, premises without the necessary conditions and the completeness of the staff.
