Havana, Cuba.-More than 630 Internet halls throughout the country, 370 public sites to access Wi-FI and four million users with access to social networks are some of the main achievements in Cuba toward computerization of its society.

We are making progress regarding the creation of capacities for Internet access by the population, with a view to make tariffs more accessible every time, Cuban Communication Minister Maimir Mesa asserted recently before Parliament.

In a meeting to make known the comprehensive policy for the Improvement of Computerization of our Society, prior to the 9th Period of Sessions of the eighth legislature of the National Assembly on July 14, Mesa insisted that despite economic limitations, we were making progress in that reference.

As the first results, he explained that the bandwidth was increased in 72 percent for Government institutions, while there were already 869 radio bases on the access network for cell telephones, with 358 of them that support 3G technology.

Of the four million users with access to the social networks, more than 1,500,000, have services through permanent nauta accounts.

More than two million users have that public e-mail service and more than 600 are paying for access to the Web from their homes, although this service does not have yet the most accessible tariffs.

I am convince that despite the financial and infrastructure limitations in our country, we can do much more regarding electronic governance. Thus, we should make good use of what we already have, he remarked.
