SAGUA LA GRANDE, Villa Clara.- The town of Sagua la Grande, located 313 kilometers from Havana, met today in front of the monument to the revolutionary martyrs, to pay tribute to the heroes fallen in the strike of April 9, 1958.

Fidel was reminded at the ceremony, when he expressed at the inauguration of the local hospital that the historic strike contributed to precipitate the events for the definitive freedom of Cuba.

During the ceremony, presided over by Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, Secretary General of the Workers’ Central Union of Cuba (CTC), the leader said that the bloodshed in the events of April 9 was not in vain because the young people will continue the construction of Socialism.

At the conclusion of the ceremony in Sagua la Grande, combatants and relatives of the martyrs fallen 60 years ago made a pilgrimage to the local cemetery.
