Havana, Cuba.- Cuban National Electoral Commission (CEN) reported that, after carrying out the final update of the list of voters for the Sunday, March 11, legislative elections the turnout was 85.65 percent.

According to the final results released by the electoral authority over the weekend, about 7,399,891 out of 8,639,989 voters, cast their ballots.

CEN president Alina Balseiro reported on March 12 that the total list of registered voters on March 11 amounted to 8,926,575, adding inclusions and discounting exclusions.

After the election and the preliminary results were released, the CEN continued the work stipulated in the process, which included the compatibility of the data with the electoral registration.

The aforementioned compatibility, once the possible duplication of 336,215 exceptional inclusions included on the election day was reviewed, helped to include the updated list.

According to the CEN, the total of declared valid votes reached 94.42 percent, higher than the figure reported in the first stage of this process, when delegates were elected to the municipal assemblies of the People’s Power, and also to the one registered in the 2013 elections.

Balseiro said during a news conference held on March 12 that, based on the preliminary results released that day, the 605 candidates to deputies to the National Assembly of People’s Power (Parliament) and the 1,265 candidates for delegates to the Provincial Assemblies were elected by obtaining more than 50 percent of the valid votes.

The 2017-2018 general elections in Cuba were convened in June 2017. The first phase of the elections concluded in December with the setting up of the municipal assemblies of People’s Power.

The process will conclude on April 19 with the setting up of the National Assembly of People’s Power, the election of the State Council and the president of the country.
