Havana, Cuba.- A popular consultation on the draft Constitution will begin in Cuba next Monday. This text upholds the principles of foreign policy defended for decades by the Revolution.

Unlike the law of laws in force since 1976, the document proposed to Cubans devotes a chapter to international relations, in which it states that the Republic bases its foreign policy on the exercise of sovereignty, anti-imperialist and internationalist principles, in function of the interests of the people.

In that sense the secretary of the Council of State, Homero Acosta, stated that most of the constitutions do not include this topic in a particular way, so the reference in the text to be discussed until November 15 in work and study centers and in the community could represent an innovation. According to the draft, Cuba ratifies its aspiration for a dignified and true peace for all states, the right to self-determination, respect for International Law and the Charter of the United Nations, and the will to integrate and collaborate with the countries of America Latina and the Caribbean.

The initiative broadens the issue of self-determination by highlighting the freedom of peoples to choose their political, economic, social and cultural system, as an essential condition for ensuring peaceful coexistence.
