HAVANA, Cuba. – 110 years ago Blas Roca Calderio was born. He was a key figure in the Cuban constitutional history.
He was a very humble man who served as a shoemaker, and stood out for his proverbial intelligence.
At the age of 21, he was the top Communist and laborer leader in the ancient province of Oriente. His nobility and generosity, coupled with a strong partisan and revolutionary conduct, make him the Secretary General of the Communist Party in the last century.
Blas Roca´s devotion to parliamentary work involved him in the drafting of the Constitution of 1940. He also wrote the first Constitution of the Revolution and was the first President of the National Assembly of People´s Power.
