Tehran, Iran.- Iran accused today the United States of intervening in its internal affairs while rejecting threats of new economic sanctions from Washington.

In a statement, the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Bahram Qasemi, called the statements made by the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, hypocritical.

‘With his words (Pompeo) he is very clear that country continues with its policy of interference in Iran’s internal affairs,’ Qasemi said.

The official considered these comments to be a strategy of promotion by the White House in the face of the international isolation caused by its withdrawal from the nuclear pact with the Islamic Republic.

In a speech at the conservative Reagan Foundation, Pompeo said on Sunday his government is not ‘afraid to confront the regime (of Tehran) at its highest level.

Iranian Defense Minister General Amir Hatami also criticized the U.S. threats on Monday.

The current U.S. administration and some of its puppets only understand the language of force, the officer said at a ceremony to inaugurate the production line of the Fakour air-to-air missile.

We will resist their harassment and sanctions with all our might because our people have already demonstrated in the past that they will respond to any arrogant power, he stressed.

Yesterday Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called on Washington to end its provocations.
