Ottawa, Canada.- Cuba’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca, is holding an intense series of activities in Canada on Wednesday as part of a visit aimed at increasing ties between both countries.

Malmierca will participate in several activities in this capital and then travel to Montreal, where he will make a presentation on the potentials to expand trade relations between Cuba and the province of Quebec, reported the embassy of the Caribbean island.

The Minister met Tuesday with the Minister of Infrastructure, Francois-Philippe Champagne, of Intergovernmental Affairs, Dominic LeBlanc, and of International Development, Marie-Claude Bibeau.

The meeting with Champagne was ‘an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas on how Canada and its companies can work more with Cuba in the infrastructure sector’, said Josefina Vidal, the island’s ambassador in this nation, in Facebook.

Malmierca also met Geoff Regan, Speaker of the Parliamentary House of Commons, and representatives of the Canadian Export Development Agency.

During his stay here, the Cuban Minister visited the city of Toronto, where he exchanged views with David Pathe, CEO of Sherritt Company, one of the largest foreign investors in Cuba.

Canada is Cuba’s fourth largest trading partner in the world, the second largest investor and the first tourist issuer to the island.
