Havana, Cuba.- The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodriguez; and his counterpart from the Republic of Guinea, Mamadi Toure, ratified on Thursday the interest of their nations to strengthen bilateral relations.

In conversations held at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry, Rodriguez expressed confidence in the possibility of strengthening ties in all areas, taking into account the potential that exists to develop them.

He also said that Cuba has a special affection for the ties with that African nation, established almost six decades ago, and recalled the support of Africans in the struggle for independence of the island.

For his part, Toure said that the close cooperation in the political, economic and social spheres is a clear example of South-South Cooperation, strategy based on direct relations between countries with common problems and the purpose of overcoming, through joint efforts, the development challenges.

He also thanked Cuba for its decisive support for its nation after reaching the independence of France, in October 1958.

As planned, the visiting foreing minister will place a wreath in the park of the African Heroes, of this capital, as part of the agenda he fulfills during his official visit to the largest of the Antilles.

Cuba and Guinea maintain historic ties of friendship and cooperation in sectors such as education and health, especially after the work of doctors on the Caribbean island in the fight against the Ebola epidemic in that country in 2013.

The African nation maintains its support to the largest of the Antilles in the fight against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States for almost six decades.
