Havana, Cuba.-Yukiya Amano, general director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will make an official visit to Cuba from November 20 to 22, as confirmed by the Cuban Foreign Affairs Ministry Thursday.

According to a note from its website, Amano was invited to Cuba by Cuban Minister of Science, Technology and Environment, Elba Rosa Perez.

Amano added that during his stay in Cuba, he will meet Cuban authorities to talk on common interest topics.

Amano’s delegation is also formed by Luis Carlos Longoria, director of the Division for Latin America of the IAEA Technical Cooperation Department.

Cuba and the IAEA keep narrow cooperation relations in the application of nuclear technologies in vital areas, such as public health, agriculture, food cultivation and care, hydrology and conservation of the environment.

IAEA recognized several times the good preparation of Cuban experts and the contributions of Cuba to the strenghtening of the cooperation activities, as a means for the sponsoring of the peaceful use of atomic energy.
