HAVANA, Cuba. – Pascal Onguemby, Ambassador of the Republic of the Congo in Cuba, urged this Thursday to promote Africa´s development to overcome structural damage inherited after centuries of colonialism.

The also Dean of the diplomatic corps in Cuba explained that Africa´s Day marks the continuity of the struggle for the definitive liberation of a region, which drags a history of suffering and misery inconceivable in the 21st century.

Onguemby assured this battle is not reduced to the political aspect, but also it is fought on all grounds, so that Africa’s Day is at the same time a source of joy for the children of the continent.

In that sense, the Congolese ambassador in Havana expressed his delight at the recent appointment of Ethiopian Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus as new Director-General of the World Health Organization. He is the first African to lead that entity.
