Havana, Cuba.- Santiago de Cuba dawned on Monday at the top of the 59th National Baseball Series, after dominating 2-1 the game against Camaguey at the Guillermon Moncada Stadium.

The ‘Wasps’ of Eriberto Rosales surpassed 7-5 on Sunday the ‘Bulls’ of Miguel Borroto to climb to the highest place on the table of positions and take a new step towards the direct classification to the second round of the tournament.

The province of Camagüey, which was recently chosen to host the All-Star Game of the Series, from October 18 to 20, occupies second place in the ranking, above Matanzas (24-14) and Cienfuegos (24-15), which complete the four teams in the advance zone without facing the play-offs.

Las Tunas (22-15), winner of the last Series, Sancti Spiritus (23-16), Granma (22-16), Industriales (20-17) and Isle of Youth (20-19) make up the remaining teams struggling to remain in the tournament.

Still with remote possibilities is Pinar del Rio (19-20), while Ciego de Avila (16-22), Villa Clara (15-22), Artemisa (14-24), Holguín (14-24), Mayabeque (13-25) and Guantanamo (8-30) now have no objective possibility of advancing.

From tomorrow, Tuesday, the penultimate subseries will be held, with games that will be decisive in the last stretch of the Series.
