Havana, Cuba. – Matthew begins to whip the eastern region of Cuba, as an intense category 4 hurricane. Its maximum sustained winds are 220 mph, with higher gusts, with a central pressure of 949 hectoPascal now.
At 6:00 p.m. this Tuesday the radar located in Gran Piedra estimated Matthew´s center in 19.9 degrees latitude north and 74.3 degrees longitude west, what places it about 30 kilometers from Punta Caleta and 45 kilometers to the south-southwest of Punta de Maisi.

Matthew keeps a course next to the north, with a translation speed that has decreased to 15 kilometers per hour. In the next 12 to 24 hours, Matthew will maintain similar course and speed of translation, with fluctuations in intensity, staying as an intense hurricane.
Since dusk high winds of 200 km per hour will blow, with gusts of up to 250 kilometers per hour, in the provinces of Guantánamo Bay and the eastern end of Santiago de Cuba and Holguin. Tropical storm force winds will continue increasing in the eastern provinces and will extend to Granma, Las Tunas and Camaguey.

Rains will continue increasing with Matthew´s progress, with accumulated between 200 and 300 mm and they will be superior in some towns and mountainous areas.

There will be strong surges on both eastern coastlines, with coastal flooding in the southeastern coast. With Matthew´s impact in the southern coast of Guantanamo, it will be a rising of sea levels in 5 meters, with waves between 8 and 10 meters.

On the northern coast of Guantanamo and Holguin, coastal flooding will become strong, while on the northern coast of Camaguey and Las Tunas will be moderate as in Ciego de Avila, which will increase with Matthew´s progress. In the Gulf of Guacanayabo, coastal flooding will begin from light to moderate from the end of this evening.
