Havana, Cuba.- The Provincial Defense Council (CDP) of Havana continues today in recovery tasks after the damages caused last weekend in this capital by hurricane Irma.

The CDP analyzes pending problems, the chronogram to repair damages and for the different public services to return to normal in the least possible time.

According to data given by the Defense Council based on reports of the central State entities, until last Wednesday total damages certified in housing reached four thousand 400, after reporting another 21 total collapses, nine partial ones and 82 that lost their roofs.

Authorities said that several shelters are being conditioned to provisionally receive affected families and they prepare to demolish some buildings in very bad shape.

Also, they analyze the availability of products in the outlets of construction materials to start offering them to victims. According to Reynaldo Garcia, vicepresident of the CDP in Havana, practically all municipalities of the capital have small industries capable of producing what is demanded in the territory. On the other hand, the hurricane damaged 25 hospitals, 32 neighborhood polyclinics and 19 medical posts. Of these only 11 are receiving water by tank trucks and 10 were still without electricity at the end of Wednesday.

In parallel, that same day 232 persons donated blood in the capital and that amount on Thursday should reach 300.

According to reports, at present eight centers of food elaboration are working in seven municipalities, which cover each 783 persons who still have not been able to return to their homes.

Also, 117 sales outlets with light food, hygiene products, as well as 73 percent of all bakeries are rendering services in Havana.

Measures were also taken in order to guarantee distribution of the family basket of regulated products corresponding to September.

Power in the city reaches 86 percent of consumers. The Plaza de la Revolucion, East Havana and Playa municipalities present the greatest difficulties, although it is expected that by today all the capital had electricity.

Of the 302 power circuits in Havana, 259 had been connected until Wednesday and another 43 were ready to receive electricity as the grid reached the needed balance.

Also, work is advancing in increasing supply of fuel to gas stations. At this moment, 49 vehicles, including several that arrived from other provinces, are working to supply the fuel. Until Wednesday, over one million liters had been distributed.

Meanwhile, the 119 urban transport routes are working. However, 11 are taking alternative routes due to the blocking of tunnels in the Bay and that of Linea Street that joins Vedado and Playa districts.

Until last Wednesday the four main services were supplying water to the Havana population, for a 90 percent coverage. The damaged zones still receive their water supply in tank trucks.

Also, 20 thousand 957 telephone lines of a total 30 thousand 46 affected continue pending reconnection, above all in the Plaza and Central Havana municipalities. Special technical brigades from Pinar del Rio, Artemisa and the Isle of Youth will arrive in the next hours to the capital to join in the repair of damages to the communication networks.
