Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Talks with Australian Authorities

Canberra, Australia.- Cuba’s First Deputy Foreign Minister, Marcelino Medina, held talks on Monday with several political authorities of Australia during the first day of his working visit to this nation.

The Cuban official arrived in this country as part of a tour that previously took him to Russia, New Zealand and Timor Leste, countries in which he highlighted the favorable ties that link them to Havana in many spheres.

Cuba and Australia have maintained positive relationships and have shared historical ties since the 19th century, the Caribbean island’s diplomat posted on Twitter.

During his first day of visit in Australia, Medida met with Deputy Minister for Europe and Latin America department at the Australian Foreign Ministry, Christopher Langman.

Joint political consultations were also held between high-level representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs from both sides.

In that meeting, the two nations were satisfied with the progress made in the bilateral ties.

The Cuban delegation thanked Australia for its support to the resolution against the blockade imposed by the United States and Cuba presents to the United Nations every year, Medina also posted on Twitter.

The intense agenda of the Caribbean diplomat included a meeting with former Foreign Minister and current parliamentarian, Julie Bishop; assistant treasurer and legislator Stuart Robert and Senator Penny Wong, Labor leader in the Senate.

The Cuban deputy foreign minister’s visit will last until Tuesday morning, when he continues his tour in Spain.
