Trinidad, Cuba.- Several projects to conserve the existing values ​​in this city and the Valle de los Ingenios, both declared by Unesco in 1988 as Cultural Heritage of Humanity, today promotes the Office of the Conservative.

These actions are also directed in the center-southern locality to raise the conditions in which inhabitants of the third of the first seven villages founded on the island by the Spanish conquistadors live.

According to Arianna Domínguez, principal specialist in Architecture at the Conservator’s Office, the work is carried out in collaboration with the Architects Without Borders board of Andalusia, Spain, and includes five streets where an integral task is carried out.

Likewise, there are plans to rescue sidewalks, the cobbled streets that characterize the old town and public lighting.

One of the plans is carried out in the community of San Pedro, located in the San Luis Valley or the Ingenios, where the houses built with the typical technique of the mud (mud, earth and straw) are rehabilitated.

The plans of the aforementioned office extend to the renovation of the building in which the slave infirmary was located in Manaca Iznaga and the assembly, in San Isidro de los Destiladeros, of a kind of museum to exhibit the process traveled by sugar cane.

In addition, it is envisaged to start a trail project that allows visitors to know all that productive activity of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, when the valley of the mills was a sugar emporium.

On the other hand, five were the buildings and sites that received the Award of Restoration and Conservation at the provincial level, granted as part of activities in the International Day of Monuments and Sites, which is held every April 18.

Among these is the Romantic Museum of Trinidad, subject to capital restoration that took several years and was the only nominee of the national territory in the category of Restoration.

Another one of the recognized sites, in the denominated City Museum of the Caribbean, was the tower of Manaca Iznaga – surrounded by history and legend-, showing a perfect state of conservation.
