Havana, Cuba.- Argentine musician Juan Quintero and his folkloric trio Quintero-Pilar-Segret is one of the participants at the Longina trova festival, beginning Tuesday in the Cuban city of Santa Clara.

The group, formed by Andres Pilar (piano), Santiago Segret (vocals, bandoneon and leguero bass drum) and Juan Quintero (vocals and guitar), was created in 2015 in Buenos Aires as a study project to rescue trios’ work.

At first, according to its members, its main focus was on redeeming works by the Martinez-Ledesma-Garcia ensembles, which were very well known during the 1940s, and the Juarez-Quiroga-Rios ensemble, which also played an important role almost two decades later.

However, over the years, its work has sought its own aesthetic that, according to specialized critics, revalues the danceable character of Argentine folklore as appreciated in one of its themes, Patio (‘Courtyard’).

One of the most important song events in Cuba has as guests, besides, the musical producer Primera Estrella and its manager Juan Alcoba, Argentine Parana Berreta and Chilean Magdalena Matthey.

Among the locals are singer-songwriter Roly Berrio and performer Yaima Orozco, as well as Leonardo Garcia, Diego Gutierrez, Michel Portela and Irina Gonzalez.

The new edition of Longina scheduled until January 13 is dedicated to the outstanding Cuban composer Ela O’Farrill, who died in Mexico in 2014, and to traditional country music.

According to the organizers, the troubadour day will have as a new aspect the extension to other Cuban cities such as Matanzas and Trinidad, which will serve as sub-hosts with presentations and concerts by groups from the territory.
