Strong repression in Ecuador.

QUITO, Ecuador. – The Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador denounced this Thursday the deaths of participants in the general strike carried out throughout the country, after a week of mobilizations against economic measures arranged by the government.

After mourning, the council’s directive clarified that in the coming days it will issue a full report of fatalities, injuries and missing persons, and the body coordinates with human rights organizations, so that this crime against humanity do not go unpunished.

Protests began last October 3, when the decree eliminating the subsidy for extra gasoline and diesel came into force.

Indigenous peoples and workers demand that the national administration repeal the paquetazo while the government urges a dialogue with proposals for so-called palliatives, an initiative that strikers do not accept.
